A Look at the Spiritual But Not Religious Crowd

In America, it is anticipated that in 20 years, at least a quarter of the population will no longer be affiliated with religion.  About 13% of the people right now are “nones” — the popular term used to describe this growing segment of the population.

Contrary to popular believe, the “nones” are not atheists.  In fact, the majority claim that they are spiritual but not religious, and are interested in the deistic beliefs of the United States’ founding fathers.

The geneses of the words “spiritual” and “religion” shed light on this trend.  Spiritual finds its roots in the terms “breath” and “wind.”  Religion, on the other hand, finds its roots in “control,” “restrain” and so on.

At God Discussion, we cover a variety of topics, many of which are controversial.  We invite you to join in the conversation with our “do follow” comments or to submit your own story or opinion piece.
